Camera Freeze Problem

I looked for any report of this problem but found none. Starting about a month ago, every now and then my camera freezes when I am taking a picture. It will actually "take" the picture (I see it frozen on the screen) but it doesn't save it, no menus, nothing. It's like the camera app crashed. I can jump back to the home screen, but when I go back to the camera, it's still frozen. I have to either kill it or re-start the phone.

I missed some pretty cool pictures as a result and it's starting to really drive me nuts. Has anyone else encountered this issue or have a workaround?

Mine has been doing that too...wondering if it's because of the SD card or something, seems like it freezes on the write.

Mine does it on occasion as well. I noticed that it occurs when I fail to wait for the green box to appear when focusing. If I jump the gun and push it before it focuses, it freezes. Now I just wait until I get the green box on focus and no issues.

Try changing the storage from the SD to internal or vice versa.

Also, try using a different camera app.

Agreed... And about the app... Are you using the stock camera launcher or a 3rd party app for pictures? Also, do you have issues when recording video?

Mine locks up occasionally. Seems like it happens when I use the flash and/or I'm a little too quick to try and do something after the picture is taken. I’’ pay closer attention to this in the future.

I also have intermittent issues with the focus/click when you long hold the focus. Most times it works sometimes it does not.

I'm using the stock camera app. I just dropped the pic quality to see if that could be the issue. I was using the full capability.

Mine had done it using Vignette, the stock program, and today using Scan2PDF. Haven't figured out the trigger that causes it. Today the flash was going off when I took the pictures and then it froze and the led lights stayed on, even when I went back to the home page. Had to power off/on to get it to shut off.

Mine is doing the same thing, but now it is also impacting video recording. I was recording some short clips at a concert this weekend and most worked fine. One clip in particular was recording nicely and then all of a sudden my phone jumped to my home screen. I went back into the media to see if the clip was there and it was, but was a broken file that could not be played back. Ended up deleting it. Sure hope the upcoming OTA will address this because although I don't do a lot of video/picture taking with my phone, it would be nice for it to be reliable. Otherwise love this phone...

Just got back from a long trip and I used the camera quite a bit (240 pics). The camera freeze happened to me many times. Going to home and back to the camera repeatedly fixed it every time. Sometimes, it took as many as four times back and forth, but I never had to reboot the phone to get the camera to work again.

Mine has done it infrequently (maybe every 30 or 40 pictures or so) since April.

I've changed back and forth between Phone Storage and SD card, and it still does it. Stock camera app.

I haven't needed to force-close it, but I do have to wait 3-5 minutes for the phone to do it on its own.

I did a factory reset about 2 weeks ago, and it's done it to me once since then.

Hoping the 2.2 Froyo update fixes this issue.

Does anyone with the leaked Froyo installed still have this problem?

Curious if it's still an issue after the update.

It's getting worse now. Before it would only freeze between every few photos. Last night while at a Braves game it dumped me to the Home Screen after every picture I took and did not save the photos. Ugh... Obviously others are having the same issue, I just wonder what HTC/Big Red is doing about it. I mean, don't taught a 8mp camera with (soon, I know) 720p recording if the darn thing doesn't work! Sorry, it's the only issue I've had with the phone, but in my mind it's a big one.
