Hello
I have a Lenovo TabS8 and find the camera gives very large files and wondered if I could control the definition of files it takes. It would be nice to vary the size for emailing as they are too large at the moment.
The Tab S8 has Android 4.4.2 and the camera is basic app. supplied.
Help appreciated.
Thanks

If there's no way to adjust the default resolution of photos taken in the stock Camera app, then you'd probably have to use an app like Snapseed to downsize the photos after you've taken them.

There is no adjustment at all though this would be nice.
As I am new to this Tablet and Android in general what is the best way to do this.
Thanks

If you use Snapseed (available on the Play Store), you can select a photo you took, then Export it at a lower resolution (and therefore a smaller filesize). The Export options are in the app's settings menu. The main issue might be if Snapseed still runs on Android 4.4.2 -- that's a really old version of Android that has lost a lot of support.

Higher resolution photos will result in larger file sizes so try readjusting the 'Resolution' option in your Camera app Settings menu. Different manufacturers put different Camera apps on their devices so you'll have to be a bit flexible to find the menu in your tablet's Camera app. It might be in the upper or the lower menu bar of the app, and it might have a text identifier actually named 'Settings' or it might be just something like a gear icon. Anyway, there will be options like 'Resolution' and/or 'Image quality' that you can alter so the default resolution is lower. The default will probably be the highest (i.e. maybe 3264x2448 or thereabouts) so pick one of the lower res numbers (i.e. 2048x1152) and take a couple of test pics to see if the file size is easier for you to work with. Keep in mind that you don't want to make your photos too low res, at some point the image quality will become noticeably dodgy.

The default Camera app you already have is adequate and usable as is, and you can make it better if you take the time to mess around with the various options in the app's Settings menu. If you want a Camera app that has a larger feature set and is more configurable, I'll recommend you install this 'Open Camera' app:

It's actively supported (and it'll run on a KitKat device) and has an extensive number of user configurable options buried in its Settings. But it's still just a camera app so if your tablet's app is all you need and want, this won't be anything that much different.

The default camera app has no way to alter anything. Just a camera symbol on the desktop.
I would install Open Camera app but this tablet does not have any Play Store.

Sorry, I have found Play Store and Open Camera. The app says it requires access to files, location, mic, etc. Is this normal and unavoidable.

Yes Open Camera is brilliant, does all I need., thanks.
One more question though I now have two document files, one camera and one Open Camera. How do I copy and paste or set default
directory for Open Camera to camera.
thanks

Go into the Settings >> Apps menu, find and open the Camera app entry (that's the Camera app, not the Open Camera app), tap on the Force stop button, then the Disable button (it being a pre-installed app by Lenovo you can't Uninstall it to actually delete it, you can only Disable it so it doesn't function).

On your Home screen or whichever screen the old Camera app was located, just go into the Apps menu, usually accessible by sweeping up from the bottom of the screen, and drag-and-drop the Open Camera app so you have quick access to it.
