Camera Hump

Strange question.

Anyone experience the camera hump being a pain (getting in the way; hanging up on a pocket) when inserting inside or removing from a pocket? I carry my phone primarily in the right rear pocket; front pockets are out of the question, and have found shirt pockets a problem since if I bend over to pick something up feed the dogs, etc., the phone is likely to fall out.

I know there are cases that will take the hump away, making the entire phone the same depth as where the hump is, but not liking those too much. But I might....

I'm using the bellroy leather case. The bellroy is probably the best fitting case available. I'm not finding the hump to be any kind of a problem at all.

Today's phones are so large pockets are impossible unless in the summer with shorts that have those large pockets.

I envie my wife who uses a wallet case and throws the phone in her purse when on the move.

Not me no issues even with skinny jeans. I put the phone in the locker with the camera hump direction in first and leaving the bottom speaker side facing up.

The bellroy case technically removes the hump by raising the surface above and below the camera hump. Am I correct?

I'm proving the answer to myself the hard way. Since, JerryRig gave an exact measurement to the hump and the fact a quarter was "almost" the same, I took some time and taped some quarters to the case on my pixel 4XL and have test this possible problem. So far, no problem other than the weight of six quarters really adds some weight to the 4XL.

There are several YouTube video reviews of the Bellroy case that show how the bump looks with the case. The case, before putting it on the P6Pro, is very thin and light. It has built up protective ridges above and below the camera bump. I like it a lot. It complements the P6Pro nicely.

There are so many good slim cases out here for the phone. I just don't like carrying a slippery phone around so the camera bar is a non-issue..

Oh my. Maybe I'd be better off going to a hobby shop and make my own skin...but THAT might end up costing even more.

I think it's not the hump itself as much as the sharp edge of the hump. Most of the cases I've seen fill in the area around the hump so it's more of a bevel around the hump to ease the pocketability without making the whole phone as thick as the camera hump.

I carry my phone in the right rear pocket also and have had no issues getting my phone in and out of pockets, whether shorts or jeans

I carry my pixel 3XL in my left front pocket with jeans... it fits, and I've adjusted to it enough that it's not terribly uncomfortable, but it's a big wide monster and it's definitely bigger than a pocket phone should be. When I went to Best Buy to do some phone comparisons, I was shocked at how much smaller the 6 Pro looked and felt, it's the same height but way narrower, I would have no problem pocket carrying that. The width of my 3XL is the real problem when pocket carrying, not the height.

But putting a case on the 6 Pro that made the rest of the back of the phone even with the camera hump, would, imo, ruin the advantage it has over the older, wider phones for pocket carry. A slim case like the Bellroy, that tapers up to the hump, would be my choice to keep it thin and narrow. Although, honestly, if they could trim that camera hump down a bunch I wouldn't even call the Pro a big phone... compared to what I'm used to anyway lol.

I just upgraded from the 3XL to the 6 Pro. It's interesting to have them both to compare side by side. The actual physical width is almost identical, but the 6 Pro screen itself extends to the very edge, so the screen looks wider. The height is a different matter. The 6 Pro is significantly taller and when you consider the real estate that the front facing speakers of the 3XL take up, the larger vertical screen real estate of the 6 Pro is significant. I love the difference when using Interactive Brokers Mobile and being able to see 30% more rows on stock charts.

Having both side by side, I much prefer the 6 Pro. It's very noticeably faster at everything, there's no comparison. I was concerned about the audio, but I was surprised that the 6 Pro audio compares favorably. The 6 Pro screen is much brighter, and the colors are noticeably more saturated.

And again, the camera bump for me isn't even close to being a negative factor.

Yes, I totally agree with you. Even the zipper pockets on my purse aren't always roomy enough for my phones!

I generally use a side clip holster which keeps my phone protected, constantly at my fingertips and away from pocket lint. No issues getting in and out of pockets. ??????
