Hmm. Might be worth checking the speed of your connections. My 4g data is **** doesnt even hit 30 mbps. Remember thats bits not bytes. Using the Picaso seems to upload to full file size still though even when the connect is brutal. It just takes forever or fails.
When texting a picture with the regular text application that comes on the phone the downsize is rediculous. You can get 3rd party texting apps that support MMS without any compression/degradation. Check the app store. As long as the recipient's device can support the file size it works well.

Dont forget its pretty easy to plug your phone into your computer, and copy the pictures over that way. Definately no packet loss there!
