The rear camera flash has stopped working. I've tried it with the camera and torch/assistive light apps and it doesn't come on, so I am assuming it is hardware.

Can I buy a new flash and how easy is it to replace? I've searched and nobody else seems to have had this issue.

I don't think you can get that part by itself, seems to be into the camera housing.
Do you have insurance or a way to get it replaced?

The phone is out of warranty, and insurance will only replace the phone, not pay for repairs.

From what I can tell, the flash is on the motherboard (see pic). I'm wondering if it can be replaced or if I'd have to replace the whole motherboard.

Check out a YouTube channel by a guy named "LE55ONS" (yes with double 5's). It's where I go before I start any repair to any phone. He does complete tear downs and rebuilds step by step. Clear picture, clear words and clear instructions.

Thanks, watching the vid is very informative. He only mentions the LED flash in passing though, he doesn't mention if it can be replaced. It looks like I'd have to replace the whole motherboard (if it's even available as a spare), which I'm guessing will be pretty expensive and also I'd end up with a new IMEI etc.

Only way your gonna know for sure is to pull the MB out and check the back. Make sure you can order the part before you try. No sense in pulling it off if you can't place it, and vice versa with buying the part. Make sure you can replace it yourself. Good luck hope you can get it resolved without loss of data and to much cash.

I've searched a few parts sites & ebay and nobody seems to sell just the led. Can only find the whole motherboard and it's too expensive. I could buy a used phone for less. So I guess I'll just have to live without a flash until I get a new phone.

Although I have heard the best pictures taken with cell phones are done so without a flash, I would be Peed if my flash went out. I use it for a flashlight at least 5 times a day.

I know what you mean. Nothing I can do though. I'm not paying a fortune for a new M/board.

The only advice I can give is not to drop the phone while you're using it as a flashlight.
