In the camera settings, I have the picture size set at 5MP, but when I take a picture and look at the details of the picture, the file size is only around 1.3MB. If I change the picture size setting to 3MP, the picture file size is around 850KB. What's the deal, am I missing something here? Running stock w/ 4.0.2.

Isn't that what the "file size" is on the details page?

The file size represents the actual amount of data contained in the image file. Resolution refers to the dimensions of the picture itself -- 800 pixels wide and 480 pixels high, for example. Images with the same resolution can be different file sizes depending on what file type (PNG, GIF, JPEG, etc.) and quality level that they are saved with.

I'm wondering what resolution is shown for the pictures.

Thanks for pointing that out, I was misinformed. w=1944, h=2592 on 5MP setting...w=1536, h=2048 on 3MP setting.

A 5 megapixel image is more or less a picture with five million pixels. So if you multiply the width by the height, you can easily figure out the approximate megapixel rating of the final picture.

Your numbers are slightly lower than 5.3/3.5 (about 5 and 3, respectively), but there's certainly no issue with them.
