Camera problems with new nexus 7

Here is what happened. I took it out of the box and set it up. Everything fine. First thing I do is go test the back camera out. Take a pic fine. Zoom in terrible pics. All blurry. After about 3 pics It freezes. No buttons work. It shuts itself down. So I though ok just a fluke. Lets do the same thing to see if it happens again. After about 4 pics it freezes again then shuts itself down and restarts itself. Anyone else have this problem. I did expect a little bit better pics from it than what I got. As long as I don't zoom to far it does fine pic quality wise. However if I take 3-9 pics in a row. Going slow or fast doesn't matter it freezes and shuts completally off then restarts.

Also I get these lines that move accross my screen sometimes while in camera mode? This is my first nexus. I'm not to sure about this anymore. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

just had similiar problem. what i think is that u just need to let it find itself . open all apps , set up all accounts , run a game and a video and open the speakers with music and the camera and video ect. right away, hit it hard. i really think its just cause its never been used . after doing all that. mine didnt do it again. even video ran choppy first time. that little cartoon sample it comes with. my guess is that it just need to warm up n run a little since it is a mini beast and all. lol loving it tons in hour three now. but yeah my screen froze for the first few pictures and videos . didnt shut down but lagged frozen for almost a minute.

I have a similar problem with the new nexus 7 (I just took it out of the box) .. when I use the camera app, the screen freezes ... either the tablet restarts itself or I have to do it.

I got an error saying that my camera would not work, because no external storage was detected. Reboot fixed it, and I never came across it again.

The next morning there was a update. So I updated and had o problems since. Are you guys still having problems with it?

I restarted today and now everything looks normal. Restarting yesterday didn't make a difference, so the problem may have just sorted itself out.

The back camera works fine for me but when i switch to front facing it freezes immediately. Tried rebooting and that didn't fix it. I even tried the front facing camera on a few other apps (hangouts, instagram) and it wont work there either.

Try a reboot and see if that does it.

Noob here...
I had the same problem out of the box...after an upgrade to 4.3 (apparently mandatory) and a few reboots later; it has been all good now.

I have the same problem, im new in the forum and i speak spanish... When i take many pictures with the rear cam of my nexus7, it freez, when the nexus reboot i lost all my pictures taked with the cam... And show a message of the external usb storage...
Looking in the file explorer i find a file with the name o camera if you erase that file the camera come to life again... But i have to do backups of my pictures because the bug comes again and again... I hope you understand my english... I think i need to use the factory image because i have the jWr66n and the lastone is the jss... And the update doesnt come to me...

Hi guys. Just got my nexus 7. Everytime i open the camera app or youtube app, my tablet will freeze up and reboot. Anyone has any suggestion to fix this? Tried factory resetting but it didnt help.

My problem is solved. I made the JSS15Q update and everything is fine....

I had the same problem. Upgrading the OS fixed it. Make sure you get the current version by doing an upgrade when you first receive your Nexus 7. As of today the Build number is JSS15R. Go to SETTINGS>ABOUT TABLET>SYSTEM UPDATES to check your current version. Have Fun!

The camera quality on mine sucks to the point I don't use it. But it only sucks indoors...outside when it's right it takes pictures. It's no way near the quality of my HTC EVO LTE but indoors the quality is so crappy I don't use it except for Snapchat pictures. I only get the error message above from time to time when I open Snapchat.

Yes, pictures quality from Nexus 7 (2013) camera is very poor. Obviously I don't not prefer using such a big device for taking professional pictures but one would expect it providing at-least meaningful quality for quick utility snaps. It tends to provide somewhat decent quality only in perfect lighting conditions. With this, I don’t use Nexus 7 camera at all. Overall the device is super, wish they had done little better job at camera.
