I am caught between this and the Huawei p10/p10 plus.

I have a p9, I love it but the battery is shot and it's lagging badly.

I love the p9's 'bokeh' or 'wide apeture' photo mode.

Is there anything similar on the U11.

Any other views on picking this phone over the P10? I just went to a phone store and played with both, the photos on the U11 did appear to have great colour accuracy and detail compared with the P10 despite the U11 having lower mega pixel count.

Thank you all.

Probably going to be tough to find someone who has had, or has both of these fairly new (or brand new) phones. Trying them in store is probably your best option, go a few times if you must. HOWEVER, I have been asking around. I DO have a few friends who change phones A LOT and it's possible I can find someone who has or has had both. I'm in that category too, but I'm still in the considering mode for BOTH of those phones. ;) I did fairly recently have a Mate 9, and loved it's camera, but I have not had an HTC since the M7.

I am yet to receive my U11 and I don't have P10, but here are my thoughts if that helps you.

I believe P10 will do a better job in wide aperture and monochrome modes. I use Honor 8 and those two rock on that budget phone. I can only imagine it's even better in P10.

For still photos, Huawei/Honor has some color variations which I usually find not true to the actual color, may be you can say they are less saturated. I believe U11 will be true to it's colors.

You can read some reviews for P10 camera here:

Hope that helps.

Thank you all. It's such a hard call, my beloved p10 is on it's last legs but my carrier offers only the p10 not the p10 plus (which has a wider apeture lens altho the difference in real world may be minimal from the p10 but I'd also like the size jump) but does offer the U11.....

I'm guessing that there is no equiv to the Wide Apeture mode on the U11?

Pocket Lint had an article this week about the p10 cameras that was so great I actually assumed it must be a sponsored article.

I will look at the DP review article, thanks for the link. I trust DP Review a bit more than DXO (who adore the U11).

My final thought is whether the colour differences I saw on playing with the units in store is partly due to the different screen technologies of the two phones.

My P9 has been a faithful friend and given me great shots that have been blown up to a4 size and looked great still.

Thanks again all....and if anyone else has anything to add.....please go ahead.

You can also watch both the Pocketnow Real Camera Review for the U11 linked above and the P10+.

IMO, the P10+ is probably the king of still shooters, with stupidly wide dynamic range, heaps of detail and lots of fine control if you are the type. The con is that if you want simple, this might not be your first choice.

The U11 is sorta like the S8 in philosophy, in that it is a simpler shooter to use while still offering a healthy amount of manual controls. Right now, its only con is its tendency to overexpose wildly, which can be mitigated by using spot metering and the exposure slider.

Both are more than capable of great shots, so either way you go, you probably won't be disappointed.

Thank you D13Hetc

You've helped me clarify my thoughts....I am going to opt for the p10+. Still photography is my main interest in the camera and I've been so happy with the p9 and love the camera controls and I prefer the form factor over the U11 and am used to some of the Huawei features.

Awesome. I think you'll be satisfied with the photos it produces.

Do take some time in familiarizing yourself with the camera app. It's not exactly the simplest and you'd need to have a bit of muscle memory. But once you get past that, you might like the photos it produces.
