Camera scratches

Coming from the M8 and having to deal with the camera lenses getting scratched and affecting image quality, I am paranoid now that I have the g3.

Has anyone experienced scratches on their lenses? I have applied a lense protector to the g3 that I was using on the m8, but its starting to get dirty.

I couldn't agree more. I've made a lens protector for my G3 case. It slides down for photos. When in the up position, the hole in it allows me to use the power button. It looks bad, but actually does the job quite well.

That's some serious hillbilly ingenuity.... LOL
Why not just use a lense protector?
I've been using them for a while now. They are simple little clear dots made of the same material as screen protectors. Pics are not affected.

I've never gotten a scratch on any lense, of any phone I've ever had, and I've never put anything over the lense to protect it. I've been rough and dropped phones plenty as well, and a lense protector has never even occured to me...

So that's what people mean by a lens protector. I didn't know they existed as manufactured items. I assumed people were improvising from bits of screen protector. Even so I'd probably want to make a protector for the protector, to keep fingerprints off when pulling phone out of pocket, but thx for tip.

I have read on several sites that the G2 had a sapphire camera lens, so I'm guessing it's the same for the G3? Can anyone confirm this?

I've just looked up sapphire on Wikipedia and it's aluminium oxide. It can be used for hard, scratch-resistant optical windows etc., and apparently also phone screens. The G2 does indeed have a sapphire front lens or at least lens cover but I don't know about the G3. Like you, I'd guess it does. You'd think the manufacturers using sapphire would shout about it in the specs because 'sapphire lens' and 'sapphire crystal' sound mighty impressive.

I've never had any scratches on a phone camera lens before. I've always had a case on my G3 so I'm assuming it should be okay for the most part. I'm curious about the lens protectors though. Do you just buy them on Amazon? And they really don't affect image quality? Also I'd like to know of the G3 has a Sapphire lens as well.

^^^Sapphire apparently fluoresces under UV light, so if you've got, you could try. Since we're in the 21st century, I'll have to say, don't try, since UV light is harmful. Huh.
My word! they knew how to make camera lenses in the past. They didn't worry about harmful then. At one point they were adding radioactive thorium to the mix to raise the refractive index. There are still some old Kodak Aero Ektars that will make a Geiger counter rattle.

I agree. I really hope it does and they should definitely flaunt it. The same way apple is flaunting their camera lens being sapphire glass, LG should too (if they actually do use sapphire).

I've never experienced scratches on any phone except my last phone which was the M8. It was pretty terrible of HTC to use a, what must be plastic, camera lens. I bought my lens protector from slickwraps and it hasn't affected image quality.

I have a UV light and the lG G3 lens didn't light up, so I guess it is made of some gorilla glass.
