Camera shutter sound and embedded GPS location

On the Epic 4G, I believe Sprint/Samsung let us have options to make the camera shutter sound silent and turn off embedded GPS location in pictures in the original camera software. But, took both options away in one update, and then gave them back later. (At least, they're back in my custom ROM.)

How about the S3 with Samsung and Sprint bloatware?

Is making the camera shutter silent an option?

Is there an option in the camera to enable/disable the embedded GPS location in pictures? What's the default setting?

There is an option to disable gps location tagging in the settings in the camera app. The default setting is "off." I have not been able to find an option to disable the camera shutter sound, unfortunately.

Even with the volume all the way down you can't turn off the sound?

even with the volume all the way down the camera is annoyingly still making noise. Actually, refocusing makes a noise as well as the shutter. I'm frankly surprised that there's no way to disable ANY of the sounds...

Does anyone know how to disable sounds in the camera app? Or do we need to download a sound manager of some sort to do it? (sorry OP if I'm hijacking your thread)

Pretty sure they made it mandatory to have sound, so you don't take pictures you shouldn't be taking. On CM9 on my OG Epic, I'm pretty sure there is a way to turn the shutter off, I never really tried, though.

If this is set like the Epic Touch there is no way in the phone to turn off the shutter sound... Has something to do with some law in Asia or something about taking pics without people knowing.

I can't find any setting within the camera app to enable gps location tagging. Where did you find that setting at?

there are many states in the good old USA that have made laws against silent shutter sounds. There is no way to turn them sounds off on the Sprint version GS3 without rooting. If you're rooted it's pretty easy.

This is pretty ridiculous. I can't take a pictures of my kids music recital or other performances without making tons of noise. Who the hell decided that the only reason we would want to silence the shutter is to take pictures without people knowing

I agree. That's exactly why I rooted. It was an easy process too.

Either root your phone, or....take a video, and take pics during the video. It's silent that way
;)

I was able to get rid of the sound without rooting by using Tasker. Not sure if it would work on Sprint's S3 as I'm with VZW but thought I'd throw it out there. Might be something to try especially if you already own Tasker.

What settings did you use to mute the camera sound

You can also go into the play store and download the stock ics camera which lets you turn of the shutter sound.
