Camera UI very bright

I opened my camera app last night in a dimly lit room and the UI ignores the auto brightness setting, is that normal? The UI was as bright a white as possible, like my screen ramped up to full brightness.

What phone do you have?

Some camera apps have a setting to override the system screen brightness, so check yours for such a setting.
