Camera vs Lumia 950...A quick look

No because it wasn't him testing out the phone in all fairness.

I just can't take Steve's comparisons too seriously is all. If you put a high end DSLR against the 950 I still reckon he'd give it to the Lumia. I had the 950 and the 950XL and thought the camera was good at first then just ok by the time other phones surpassed it but that was about it. I don't think anything from Nokia/Microsoft came close to my 1020 it just set too high a bar. I'm dying to get my hands on the Nokia 9. The depth focus is unreal and that's something I really go for in photos.

It did indeed win, as it so often has, in this further small comparison.
Camera data set 2: Nokia 9 PureView vs Lumia 950

Another crappy test where he just point and shoots on his front street then pixel peeps. No mention of settings or anything. The Nokia 9 is NOT a point and shoot mass market camera phone. It's designed for people who know a bit about photography and would rather have more RAW data to work with in post vs making eye candy over processed JPEGs in auto mode.

These guys need to go on Instagram and see some of the results other Nokia 9 users are getting. Far surpasses the Lumia 950. And I'm a big Lumia fan!

Exactly! Nothing against the Lumia but it's four year old tech. It doesn't have the capabilities that the Nokia 9 has. I'm loving this camera.

I loved the L950's overall and the camera was decent but I've got a huge stack of photos from them in my OneDrive where most people just look yellow. The colours were always way off and the front cam was just awful

Well, here’s more: 808 vs 1020 vs 950 vs 9. http://allaboutwindowsphone.com/features/item/23435_Imaging_showdown_Nokia_808_Sym.php

I’d be staggered if my own 1020, astonishing though it was in its day, could beat any high-end modern phone camera in an overall comparison. It may still show better detail after heavy cropping - it can just beat my small-sensored iPhone SE in that respect - but not necessarily in dynamic range and colour accuracy. I think that most of us would agree that phone cameras have improved remarkably in recent years, and that the 1020 has been overtaken.

I can't lie, these results are pretty surprising and it's good to see the Lumia 1020 holding up so well. Makes me want to pull mine out and take it for a spin one day. I'm taking it with me to Disneyland at the end of the year for sure. I'm curious about the Nokia launch event for the 2nd though. It doesn't make sense for a lower level or mid-range device to have a seemingly more capable camera arrangement than your recently launched flagship. I think a few key software updates will maximize the potential of the Nokia 9 though.
