On the pictures y'all take with your Pixel phones.
Do you just open the camera and snap the picture.
Or do you change the camera settings.
Thanks.

I just open it and take the picture. Sometimes I may change to portrait mode to blur the background or raise the exposure some by sliding it up when I have a strong backlight but for the most part just open and shoot.

Open it, a lot with the double tap on the power button when the phone is locked. If I have time I tap the screen after I have the object or person on the screen. It tends to refocus and let more light into the pic. Works very well in night shots.

When I first got my Pixel 2 XL I made sure that HDR+ was set.
For me HDR+ makes a huge difference in image quality.
I also tap the screen to focus on what I want, especially when my subject is close.
Tapping to focus on a person that is in front of heavy back lighting can make a huge difference. As Theot mentioned, tap to focus in low light can be particularly effective!

I simply open the camera and shoot. I don't even bother with the flash in low light settings. Don't need it.

It's very difficult to take a bad photo with this phone. In fact, I can't think of a one I've taken that wasn't excellent.

Ditto.

I use the Google Camera app and I usually open and shoot. I might use the panorama setting or portrait setting. I have the flash set to off but if I need some fill flash on a bright day I'll turn it on. It does well enough at night and interniors that I never use the flash to light a scene.

I also do 90% of my editing in Google Photos.

There aren't a lot of settings to chose from so for the most part it's point and shoot.

I think my camera is defective, both rear and front facing. Have taken multiple shots without adjusting anything and also in portrait mode, of myself with my girlfriend. Our faces are always stretched / elongated and we just don't look right. Tried up close and far away, same thing. I think I'm a 6, personality bumps me up to maybe a 7, but still, these photos are just way off. Compared to her iPhone 6, my iPhone 8, and now XS, the iPhone photos have our faces shaped as they actually are. Anyone else experiencing this? Started before the Pie update, nothing to do with that.

I kept HDR+ on or on auto (whichever it was) and would just double click power point and snap. Nothing really fancy needed on my part and I got amazing pictures.

I usually just open the camera app and point and shoot; but sometimes I'll switch to Portrait Mode.
