Can a micro USB charger physically damage your charging port?

I picked up a Moto G6 Play. When I got home I used the charger that I normally plug into my Kindle fire. The fire has never had an issue with fit. When I plugged in the G6P it was super tight and so I tried to work it in but the metal part of the charger didn't go all the way in. So I pulled it out (had to wiggle it a bit) and tried again with a little more umph. Still wouldn't go all the way in. Could this damage my brand new phone?

Second - The charger should fit smoothly, it shouldn't take much force. I would use a flashlight and see if you can identify any damage inside the port.

It looks fine as far as I can tell. It's just weird that the same charger fits smoothly into my fire but really tightly into the G6P
