Can a nexus 4 with custom ROM be updated?

I have my nexus 4 unlocked and rooted running the cataclysm ROM and it is on Android 4.3 but I'm unable to check for updates. Is there a ROM that still let's you update or do I have to flash the original stock 4.3 to get the update?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You will need the stock ROM and stock recovery to do an ota update.

Rooting and flashing ROMs typically stops any updates from coming through. Just flash an updated ROM when it's available.

Hello,

Yes you would have to be stock to receive an OTA update. I know you can be rooted on stock and then receive the update but there is a trick to it, I think involving temporarily flashing the stock recovery in place for it to work.

Otherwise you would have to depend on your favorite ROM developer to incorporate any new updates into their ROM.
