Can Always on Display be Sometimes on Display?

Always on Display is nice but seems wasteful at time. I was wondering if there's an option similar to Motorola's version where the display only comes on when the phone is picked up or moved? I've looked in the options for it but have only found either day/night/always.

Am I missing an obvious option?

Only option you have is to keep the display from turning on when in a pocket or facing down (basically the proximity sensor being blocked). Or you can use the 'peek' notification gesture where you see a glimpse of notifications by waving your hand over the phone with the screen off.

You can probably blame Motorola... They wouldn't let Samsung use the feature.
