Can anyone help me to unlock my HTC One M8?

My ex gave me the phone as a gift once he had his upgrade. We have recently split and today he has decided to lock it by Android Device Manager which needs a password to unlock it. On my screen, I have the message call owner, which he has put as his new number. I wouldn't be that bothered about it normally, but the phone has pictures of my 4 month old daughter on it & I do worry that I may need the phone in an emergency. Any help would be grateful, many thanks.

Welcome to Android Central! Were you sharing a Google account? You should generally never share a Google account with anyone, because something like this could happen. If you had had your own Google account that he didn't know the password for, he wouldn't have been able to do this.

Unfortunately, there isn't much you can do, besides trying to reason with him, if that's even possible.:-\
