Just got a Z3. Wifi is killing me

First of all hello :)

Now to the point. I just received a Z3 yesterday. Got a model from Polish carrier Play (unlocked, a bit of bloatware preinstalled). I connected to my home Wifi to download all my apps. One being Asphalt 8. It went terribly slow, so I stopped all transfers, installed SpeedTest and checked. I got 3,5Mbps dowload speed on my home wifi. I checked it on my PC connected to the same network - 56Mbps was the result. I checked on my old phone - SGS3 (rooted, with CM11) - 40Mbps spiking to 50.

I tried changing saving mode in location services (tried all 3 settings), tried enabling and disabling wifi optimization, tried disconnecting, forgetting my wifi and connecting again, entering airplane mode, turning off bluetooth, changing frequency and channel of my wifi. Didn't change security type of my router (I red that Kitkat doesn't like WEP, but my router is set on WPA/WPA2 Personal and didn't change my 802.11 settings (it's on b/g/n).. I even did a factory reset. To no avail

I've ran out of ideas as to how to fix this issue. Apparently I should just turn off my Wifi and use LTE instead. Anyone had such issues and knows the fix?

Hmm sounds like an individual handset issue. My Z3 is currently on 65Mbps on WiFi so it's not a problem with all Z3s. Take it back?

^^ This. WiFi speed is literally the same as my previous devices on my Z3. Something has to be up with the device's bands.

Bah. It appears that it's not my phone that's ****ty, but my internet provider. So I'll just leave it here: If you have UPC (Poland) internet 60Mbps with Technicolor router you might see a drop to around 3Mbps on your wifi, as UPC has some technical problems and is either slowing down the bandwith or the connection is unstable.

Re: Just got a Z3. Wifi is killing me

I have almost the same issue with Z3 compact. My router is a Fritz!Box 7390, there the problem occurs. DSL speed is 6Mbit/s.
In 2 other WiFis phone is working fine. Im on Vodafone Germany for mobile network.

What I found out so far:
- if I disable WiFi and reenable it again, connection speed is okay ... after some minutes (something between 10 and 60) the WiFi slows down again to ~1Mbit/s

- if I am in flightmode with WiFi enabled, WiFi keeps beeing stable and fast for hours
- if I disable mobile data connections, WiFi keeps beeing stable and fast for hours

- if the problem occurs, not only the internet connection is affected, but also the intranet (Used "WiFi Speed Test" from PlayStore). I testet between (Z3C=>Router=>FTP Server on NAS) and (Z3C=>Router=>TCP Server on PC). WiFi speed is as slow as 10Mbit/s, while both phone and router claim that the link is active with 68Mbit/s. Disabling and reenabling WiFi then gives me download speed from local FTP and TCP of ~50Mbit/s

Can you try to disable and reenable WiFi and see if speed is okay the for some time?

Re: Just got a Z3. Wifi is killing me

I had the same prob too -__- it's always slow compared to the Moto G

I had similar problem, my phone had a little problem with authentication and regular disconnecting from wifi. I tried many things like hard reset, software update, router software update etc. even I came back from Marshmallow to Lollipop for a while, but nothing helped me. The solution turned out to be channel in my router. I changed it to 3 after that to 13 - but my phone works only with default channels like 6 or 8. After change my wifi get back to life and now work perfectly. Try it in your case :)

Channel - This field determines which operating frequency will be used. It is not necessary to change the wireless channel unless you notice interference problems with another nearby access point.
