Can anyone Name a cheap decent smartphone experience?

Did you end up getting the SII? Even though its a few Years old, it should still be a very capable device, especially if you root it.

I don't root. Its not my thing.

I would still go with the Nexus 4, seeing that it is still a fairly recent device. In addition to that, it will continue to receive updates straight from Google, so you will be able to keep it for longer without it becoming obsolete.

To get a decent Nexus 4, I would have to pay $100 dollars more and I would lose having a microsd card slot. I forgot about the SGS2 on T-Mobile, that's why I brought it up and I found it for a little over $200 new with a T-Mobile sim card and a case. You don't get that with a nexus 4 purchase. It would end up being extra money foe the sim card and the plan on top of the device. With this I only have to pay for the device and plan which still is $70 less than just the Nexus 4.

Can anyone find a cheap decent phone experience besides the Nexus 4?

Just look on Amazon/Craigslist/eBay for used smartphones with a SIM slot so you can choose what carrier you want.

If you're looking for a new phone, you can't beat the value of the Nexus 4, hence why everybody keeps recommending it.

If $300 is too much and you don't want a quad-core 720p phone, then take a look at the prepaid sites such as Boost Mobile, AT&T Go Phone, T-Mobile, etc. There are cheaper options available.

Nexus 4 = best off contract, prepaid phone you can buy.

I've just ordered a Cubot GT99 - 4.5 Inch IPS HD screen (1280x720px) Android 4.2 Quad Core 1.2GHz Smartphone dual SIM 1GB RAM 12.0MP Camera GPS (Red,Black, white), the reviews of it I found seemed good enough, if you're interested I'll let you know if it really is a decent smartphone and any flaws it has once I get it.

Why is it so cheap? I found the phone on amazon for $140. That can match the nexus 4 spec for spec. Not the same processor of course.

It won't be as good as the Nexus 4, that's for sure. The components will generally be lower quality, I wouldn't expect too much from the camera, and it will be manufactured in China with slim profit margins. I'm sure it will have some flaws, there is an issue with the GPS, apparently common to phones with Mediatek chips, but there is a workaround for it.

I'd be wary of companies offering it for as cheap as $140, you may not get good customer service in case of a problem with the phone, which is more likely for a cheap phone like this. I ordered mine through Dracotek on Amazon.co.uk (they do have their own website) and they at least have a good reputation for customer service.

you can try lg optimus l9 quit a good phone. Xperai ion low specs but thats what you pay for. But nexus 4 is the best choice it will also get the os update fastest , as a side choice else you can go for lumia 521 it has wp8 os cost around 100$. packs good specs for that price. i suggest you to go to store and talk to the representative

Rofl at the only user review on Amazon for this phone. It reads like an advertisement.
Yeah, that hadn't eluded me. Since it has some negatives I assume it was written by the seller who wanted to convey a positive impression, but not set the expectations too high. I found a few reviews elsewhere and decided to take a chance.

I received this last Saturday, and all in all I'm happy with it, it isn't perfect, in particular I haven't been able to get the GPS to work, but it is very good value for money. It benchmarks marginally faster than my 2012 Nexus 7 and feels very smooth in use (unlike my Nexus 7 these days). If anyone is interested I'll answer questions about it and go into a bit more detail about my experience with it.

Not sure if OP is still looking for a phone, but the Nexus 4 is now $200 on the Play Store.

Nothing can beat it for performance per price now.
