Can apps be run from sdcard on SM-J120A

My Galaxy Express 3 does not give me the option to move apps to sdcard. It runs version 6.0.1 and is a model SM-J120A

Welcome to Android Central! Not all phones support this. If you don't see a Move to SD for any app, then the phone doesn't support it, and you'd have to root the phone to move apps (and use something like Link2SD or App Mgr III).

The other possibility is that the SD card was formatted as adoptable internal storage, but my understanding is that Samsung doesn't support adoptable storage.

Yes, they can run on the SD card. I thought at first they couldn't, so I uninstalled a few apps. The way to find out which programs can is to go to the application manager and on each program tap the storage line. First several times I didn't bother to tap it as I was thinking it would have its own line. I moved quite a few that were allowed to be moved.
