Can Contact photos be square instead of circular?

I am using Nova Pro on my V20 & my contact photos are circular, something I don't like at all, as the person's image is cropped too much.
On my previous Samsung Note 2, the contact photos are nicely square. Your feedback please.

Your launcher has nothing to do with how your phone app displays contact photos.

It appears most messaging apps use circular
