Can i brick my phone?

Can i brick my phone by installing LG Opitmus P500 rom?

From what I understand, as long as your recovery is fine, you can flash whatever rom you want, and you'll be able to recover. Having said that, the rom you flash probably won't load because the kernel will be all wrong. If you flash a V kernel over it, you might be able to get it load, but most things would probably FC.

Okay, so how do i change the kernel and where is it located? Thank You

Download it from one of the threads in the hack forum. There are lots of kernels to pick from. You flash them like a rom inside the recovery. Check out the stickied reference guide for a list of them.

So what I'm trying to do is flash ThunderSense rom from the LG Optimus P500. I flashed the kernel but i kept giving me a bootloop. Will the rom work on the OV?

Probably not. If it were to work, you would flash the rom and then flash the OV kernel, but most likely, it will just boot loop.

Can i just replace the kernel or that wouldn't work neither? How can i make it work with the Ov?

What do you mean? You are replacing the kernel by flashing the kernel after you flash the rom.

But most likely, even if do that, it won't work. If you want your phone to look like that rom, install a OV rom that looks similar and then use a theme kitchen to add whatever you want: [KITCHEN][06/10] UOT Kitchen (Ultimate Online Theme Kitchen) version 4.0 - xda-developers

The rest of what you see is the launcher app you use. There are a lot of them in the market that will make your phone look like whatever you want.

Baiscally it's a HTC rom i thought since it worked on the Opitmus P500 it would on the OV. How did they get it to work on it. I did some reserach on how to make a custom rom it seems like you need to have a mac.

I've never made a rom. You'd want to ask one of the rom devs, but I doubt it requires a mac.

If the rom isnt listed here as a compatible rom, I wouldnt attempt to flash it.

Its highly unlikely you will brick your phone.

However anything is possible and probable.

The rom you are trying to flash will more than likely send you into bootloops.
The reason it works on the P500 is it was ported to that phone.
Meaning somebody converted it tot he P500.
Each phone model isslightly different and just because its android based doesnt mean you can flash it. As each phone uses some different code. And unless you convert that code to what your phone supports it is highly probable you will bootloop or brick your phone.

My suggestion is to contact a rom dev and see if they would be willing to port the rom to the Optimus V. If and only if you just have to have it. Otherwise I would use the launchers available and customize to that look.
