Priority of connecting to available WiFI networks

Can I change the order in which my Galaxy Note 10.1 connects to a WiFi network? If I have say three WiFi signals available, I would like to set a priority to them so that I am not, for example, connecting to my Mobile Hotspot when a home WiFi is available or if I want to connect to my 5MHz WiFi instead of the 2.5.

I don't think you can At least not via stock settings. It takes, if I'm not mistaken, the strongest signal from a remembered network and then connects to that.

However, that seems like a fairly trivial thing that Tasker could do. You can set your 'recipe' to all your available options and set it to connect to whatever you want given a given availability. Not sure if it can disconnect a network if it 'sees' another one available and connect to that one instead, but it doesn't sound like something that it wouldn't do... you might just need root, but again, not sure.

Thanks SpookDroid for the response. Can you elaborate on "Tasker" and "recipes" - I don't believe I have that in the 2013 Note 10.1 do I?

Nope, you don't. Tasker is an app (VERY powerful app) that can pretty much automate things in your device. It's not, unfortunately, very easy to pick up, but once you get the hang of it, it's quite powerful and useful.

A similar app is IFTTT (If This, Then That), and that's exactly what it does. You program a set of rules and if those rules are met (IF THIS HAPPENS) then the app carries out an action of your choosing (THEN DO THAT).

For instance, in your case, you could set a rule that says that if you see Network A, B, and C available, the phone should then connect to Network B. And then another rule that says that if only Network A and C are available, then the phone should choose Network A. And so on, and so forth.

Tasker is generally considered to be more powerful and be able to do a lot more than IFTTT, but maybe for your needs IFTTT is more than enough. Microsoft has a similar app called On{x}.

Pretty sad from Samsung. I just got one and was trying to find the setting I use for my htc1 and is so simple (tick a box) so when the phone sees a wifi Network is turned off. Else this S5 is pretty good.
