Can I charge the battery using the module?

If I buy a spare battery and charge it using the module without attaching it to the phone, will it work?

I don't think they make a stand alone battery charger for the G5.

There is a pic here of what looks like it could be charging an extra battery through the camera module. Can't tell from the pic though.

You will be able to purchase a replaceable battery without the module. I would guess that LG will have a cradle or other similar accessory to charge a spare battery. Otherwise, you'll have to charge it with a module as shown in the picture above.

Unfortunately the picture makes no sense in real life as the connectors on the battery is on the top of the battery, on the side which is not connected to the cameragrip module. And no, you cannot therefore charge the battery this way. A standalone charger from LG is the only way as of today.
