Can I connect a Samsung MHL adapter AND a mouse to my Samsung S4?

I have a broken screen (no display and touch screen doesn't work) on my Samsung S4. I need to get at the data on my phone, but I have a pattern lock on the device, so I cannot access unless I unlock the phone. I bought a micro usb otg cable to try and use a mouse to unlock my phone, but since I can't see what I'm doing, I haven't had any luck. I also have a Samsung MHL adapter so I can view my phone on a TV. Is there a way to connect both my MHL adapter AND a mouse to my device? My MHL adapter has a micro usb port so I can charge while I am using, but when I plugged the mouse in there (using the micro usb otg cable), that didn't work. Any thoughts?

I don't think you can, honestly... The USB port in your MHL adapter is purely for power purposes. Without this, the adapter won't work. You could connect a bluetooth mouse to your phone, but unless it was paired before, you'd have a hard time adding it for the first time if you can't see what's going on in the screen.

I haven't tried it, I'm not sure it would work, but the only way I could see this as a possibility is to have some sort of 'hub' where you could connect the MHL adapter AND the mouse to the same phone port (like a splitter).

HOWEVER, you might have another option: SideSync. This enables the phone to send the screen to a PC but also to use the PC's mouse and keyboard on the phone via USB cable. Tricky part is that you'd need SideSync already installed in your phone for this to work. :(
