Can I flash Firmware purely from SD card?

[Android Central Question]

My S7 is playing up (due to toddler getting hold of it and doing who knows what), it just cycles when attempt to boot. Can get to Recovery screen okay. Safe mode not working. I've resigned myself to buying new phone, but, there's some files/photos that I'd like off it.The charging/data port appears damaged, as it won't accept charge, nor recognised by laptop. Wireless charge works fine.

So, I'm wanting to flash the Firmware to see if helps, but, I can't connect via USB. I have the Firmware .zip file on my laptop, and a micro-SD adapter. My question is, can I flash the Firmware via the SD card/recovery menu? I've done stacks of googling and got ambiguous answers.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, you can if its the next update through sd card , but to put completely stock firmware you need a pc and USB cable to connect no other way .

If you were logged in to your Samsung account on the phone you can try to go here and remotely back up your device https://findmymobile.samsung.com/


Then go to your Samsung cloud on the web to retrieve it

Nice suggestion with the Samsung Cloud; unfortunately, I only had my Tablet synched up... I guess that's a lesson going forward!

Ah just my luck that the Firmware Science archive only goes back to S8...lol! If anyone can chip in with where on the Net to find the firmware "updates" for the S7, I'd be greatly appreciative. I'll do some googling in the meantime.

Any other workarounds/suggestions welcomed.
