AC Question

I have a Kyocera Hydro that has 4.0.6 on it. I am trying to use it to run the App for my Yi 4k Action camera (similar to a Gopro). When I go to the play store it and try to download the app, it says that the app is not compatible with my device. The app specs say that Android 4.1 is required. Can I get 4.1 on my Hydro?

I tried to go through System Update, Update Firmware, it goes into checking for Firmware update for about 5 minutes and always ends with a message like "Network busy"

Is there a somewhat simple way to do this? I'm not a technical person, and don't know anything about rooting phones. Thanks for any advice.

You have the latest update written, there's nothing further. If you learn how to rewrite ROMs to work in earlier phones, you might be able to get 4.1 to run on it, but you're still talking about a phone with 512MB of RAM, so it may not run even if you install it. (Manufacturers normally only rewrite security updates, and then, only for a while, for older phones. Flagship phones get updated twice normally, then they're dropped too. First, it costs the manufacturer [in labor] to rewrite vanilla Android to work on any particular model and second, Android is written to run on the current line of phones at the time it's written, so it usually won't run on phones that are very old. Since yours is almost 5 years old (3Q 2012), they probably stopped writing updates for it about 4 years ago.

Thanks very much for your reply, I appreciate it. Since I just had this phone laying around, and it is water resistant, I thought it would be great on a selfie pole for the gopro at the beach. Now I know it can't be done and can move on. Thanks!
