Need help removing notifications in veitnamese

So i tried to encrypt my phone using the built in encryption feature. Phone froze up on me after leaving it for over 6 hours i was informed it had probably been rooted and so the service wouldn’t work and would have to remove my battery.

In doing so as expected wiped the phone. When booting the phone it defaulted to Vietnamese with use of Google translate i managed to make it through the intro prompt screens and set the language back to English

Now however the phone keeps throwing me notifications in Vietnamese. This didn't happen before the reset of my phone so i can only assume it has gone back to its default software.

Looking through the settings and using your incredibly detailed guide on models it appears to be a SM-G900J a.k.a SCL23 = au KDDI which is odd since the language was according to Google translate not Japanese.

give me a minute and i will post screen shots based on advice given in a post i found titled samsung-galaxy-s5/606439-why-can-t-i-update-my-s5-kitkat-android-lollipop.html#post4816834 it wont let me post links since I don't have 10 posts

just as some additional info i purchased this fairly recently within the past month new however it was paralell imported but was from an NZ company.

Re: Need help removing notifications in veitnamese

Hello and welcome to Android Central deathguard!

I am seeing these, "adapted", phones more and more. Particularly in the Australasia area. You have done your research well and there is nothing much that I can add to what you already know.

The phone is on the old operator branded Au Kddi firmware for Android 5.0, Lollipop, on release OE7. The latest release is OI2 which has the Stagefright malware fix. As the phone has been rooted, it will not receive updates via OTA or Kies/Smart Switch.

The phone is designed specifically for the Japanese, Au Kddi network and you are fortunate that it is compatible with the Vodafone, New Zealand, network. It would not be the same case with, say, Vodafone in Europe. See, Will My Phone Work?

The phone will have several languages, apart from Japanese and Vietnamese, although quite why it should default to the latter, I cannot say unless the phone is running a custom ROM version of the stock Au Kddi firmware.

Any attempt to re-flash the stock Au Kddi firmware to correct the problem or to update the phone, will un-root you and re-lock the phone to the Au Kddi network it would appear from what I have read.

There is always a problem with, "adapted", phones as one has no idea exactly what has been done exactly to adapt them and any attempts at changing, altering or updating this firmware/ROM could render it unusable. You will need to do more research before attempting any changes.

As for the notifications, this could be, as I mentioned earlier, a Vietnamese custom ROM based on the Au Kddi firmware.
