Welcome to Android Central! Are you using the stock Email app, the Gmail app, or something else? If it's the Email app, open it, tap Menu>Settings, select your email account, and make sure the server settings are correct (you can search the web for your email provider's server settings by Googling "[your email provider] IMAP settings"). You can also remove the account, then add it back, and see if that works.
