htc sync manager troubleshooting

I have an AT&T HTC ONE M8. :'(:'(When I connect my htc usb to my pc, the htc sync manager opens and shows that the attempt to connect to my device has started. After approximately 2 minutes or less, I get a message that my "DEVICE IS UNAVAILABLE." THE USB cable is new, my device is 2 weeks old, I powered off my device for 5 minutes (that failed). I tried this process several times and I keep getting the same message. I have Windows 7, the manager drivers are updated. HELP please.

I don't like HTC Sync Manager and have taken it off my computer. I just move stuff manually as I need it when plugged in via USB. Plug it in and you will see it pop up in the My PC under hard drives . Choose Internal Or SD Card and use like an external hard drive.....

I too had this problem and felt compelled to write this response after having gone through this issue twice in one week recently when I had to have my phone replaced due to a faulty on-off switch. My HTC Sync Manager just up and stopped working after a few months. It recognizes the phone being attached to my laptop via the USB cable, but after a few seconds or minutes, it gives me an error message saying that "The devices available [4]" After many hours on the phone, the solution is simple. Rather than repeat the MANY steps we went thru on the phone, I'll let Chad of the DROID Guy website explain in 3 easy steps. Too Easy.

"Solution: This appears to be a common issue among those who have updated their phones to Lollipop. You should first try to uninstall the HTC Sync Manager from the computer and install a new one from the HTC website.

If the problem still persists then install the AndroidHtcSync2.apk file which is present in the internal storage of your phone.

First go to Start menu > Settings > Security > Check Unknown Sources.
Next go to Start menu > File Manager > AndroidHtcSync2.apk > install.
Connect your phone to HTC Sync Manager, it should be detected by now."

Happy computing!:)

having checked to allow installation from unknown sources in settings: security when i tap androidhtcsync2.apk it opens a page with htc sync manager emblazoned across the top and i'm asked to confirm that i wish to install an update, when i do confirm after a short attempt to install i'm told that: " X app not installed"......So, not working for me and i dont know what "app" isn't installed or where. HTC Sync Manager isn't installed on my phone as far as i can see, but it shouldn't be should it? i am totally at a loss!
