Can I get text service while in Canada with Verizon wireless?

Texting while in Canada

We are looking at traveling to Niagara Falls, staying on the Canada side. We have Verizon. Can we still text while we are there? Should we do something to our phones to make sure we don't get charged an arm and leg while we're there? (Droid Maxx) I know many years ago on my first phone it would go into 'roaming' but I wasn't sure if we were still charged for that 'out of network' anymore.

Log in to My Verizon and see what your options are. This shows the plan but I don't see the rate. Or just do as my sister did and turn on airplane mode for the duration of your visit and use WiFi in the hotel if you need to look something up.

Depending how far you go into Canada you may pick up some Verizon service. Still but if you go online their are certain rates for Canada calling and texting. I don't remember which carrier they partnered with over there though

They do. Just get a prepaid Sim card and stick it in your phone!

As long as you have a texting plan, text messages are free (counted as a domestic) while in canada

Yes, not just the more everything plans. When i had the nationwide plans it counted as a domestic text also. Just as long as you have a texting plan its included and billed as a domestic text regardless of current or old plans.

I have an antique legacy family share plan(the primary line still has unlimited data). All the phones on the account share unlimited texting plan. It is still unlimited in Canada. I've used it extensively when traveling to Ontario and Quebec. It costs nothing and I dont' need to bother with voice calls at all!

Good thing there is someone to back me up! I got family all around canada and have never seen a text or picture charge
