Android Central Question

My screen on my android smart phone no longer works but I have unread whatsapp messages. Is there a way I can initiate a fresh back up to the Google drive though the google drive that will then allow me to view the messages on a new handset?

Welcome to Android Central!

Unfortunately, no. You have to configure WhatsApp backups inside of WhatsApp. Unless you were already performing scheduled backups, you’ve likely lost your messages.

Thank you both for your replies. I do have automatic back up settings in whatapp, I can see from google drive my last back up was this morning at 10 am, I am hoping it will back up again tomorrow morning but if there was a way to manually back up through google drive I would get the ball running sooner. I will also try to replace screen tomorrow but would like to see the messages asap if possible. I looked at software to externally operate the phone through my mac but again it seems as though you need to accept the software through the phone before it connects understandably for security reasons....

You’re welcome, and I’m sorry I didn’t have a more satisfactory answer. Evidently you’ll just have to wait for another automatic backup.

I opened Google Drive on my phone to see what options are available for managing WhatsApp backups, and it only offers the ability to delete the current backup file or turn off backups entirely.
