can i network unlock my phone by editing build.prop

I just got a Lg g pad x 8.0, but it is currently locked to tmobile usa, the phone cant be unlocked by inputing the unlock code, and the device unlock app does not work( it says app not compartible with phone). while using build.prop i discovered a property ro.build.target_operator whosse value is TMO. I dont know maybe if i change the value, i will unlock the network, please help

Sounds like something that shouldn't be messed with unless you understand exactly what it is doing. Have you asked T Mobile to unlock it?
