Can I return SGN for scratch on screen?

So, I managed to scratch the screen on my Verizon SGN. It's kind of a bad one.

The phone was purchased at a VZW corporate store in the US on a $200+ mo credit card.

I would definitely pay the $35 exchange fee to start over again with a screen protector.

Given that I'm still within the extended return period (until Jan 15, accd to my receipt), can I do it?

Can I go into the VZW store and make this happen somehow? Any suggestions most welcome!

I don't have much personal experience returning phones to VZW, but I highly doubt it. Being within a return period won't really save you from damage that you caused to the phone, unfortunately. If you have insurance you can pay the deductible, which will of course be higher than $35, but it'll still give you the chance to start over with a screen protector.

Out of curiosity, do you know how the screen got scratched?

Nope you can't. The phone can't have damage for you to exchange it and if they somehow missed it they would eventually add it to your bill. You can always use your insurance as the poster above me mentioned.

I've been using the Verizon branded holster that came out on launch day. The phone is in a shell that slides into the holster. As anyone who has it will know, your shirt continually gets caught in the holster when you re-holster the phone. Really big PITA.

I think my shirt got caught in there on the first day and that's how it happened. It's a really long scratch.

i doubt that your shirt scratched it. you should be more careful where the screen goes if you dont have a screen protector on.

that being said, i doubt VZW will do anything for your situation since cosmetic damage is no ones fault but your own.

How about you just man up and pay the insurance premium and get a replacement. Why should anyone have to foot the bill for your mistake/accident?

Lol here we go with one of these threads. All I can say is use a screen protector next time if scratches bother you. Otherwise just deal with it or call insurance. They will not let u take it back so u might as well chalk that up for a loss.

From the best android phone PERIOD. Galaxy Nexus.

Can you buy insurance after the fact? What's the deadline?

They might let you add it, but I'm pretty sure that is fraud. Something that isn't discussed here on the forums if I recall correctly.

So you wanted to foist your screw up on Verizon.....now you want to lay it on the insurance company you were to cheap to buy insurance from.....its called personal responsibility. Either live with it or buy a new one....stop trying to scam your way into somebody else paying for it.

Ease up on the guy. He clearly doesn't know.... doesn't sound like he is trying to scam anyone, except if you tried to pass it off w/o them noticing.

First try and get insurance added since you are still within your trial period. You can probably do this over the phone. If not, go into the store and ask nicely. Or vice versa.
