Can I root my HTC EVO 4g ??????

Ok so my phone is quite old and I really want too upgrade it but I am not able to simply by buying a new phone, is there any benifit to attempting to root it or unlock it or ANYTHING.! I just want it to be a little better than it is. Lol. If there is a way to root this old phone can someone help me out? I really just want to be able to download google chrome on it and its too old of an android version to do it.

It's version is 2.3.5

Rooting will allow you root access to your phone, so you can pretty much do whatever you want. Rooting will give a few more years of life to your device. Oh, and unlocking has to do with the phone being locked to a certain carrier, nothing to do with your problem. Before you attempt ANYTHING, please, FOLLOW ALL DIRECTIONS TO T! Ok hey, can I root a phone that doesn't have actual service but is still on. I can use apps and via another app I can send and recieve calls and texts even though there's no service. Is it possible to root it? It's a droid pro. Old phone but nonetheless...
