Can I savely update my rooted nexus 7 (kitkat 4.4.4) to lollipop 5.0.2. without any problems

i get the OTA lollipop 5.0.2 update (downloaded) on my tablet and do as instructed but after reboot and then installing the update after a few minutes it stops and the android robot appears with and exclamation mark (red) and the word error, shows up.
After a couple of minutes the tablet reboots itself and goes back to 4.4.4.
What is wrong? What must i do to update correctly? Is the update file only 389.2 Mb big?

So far as I know you will not be able to download and install the update in a rooted device.

A rooted device usually stops OTA updates. Do you have a custom recovery installed?
