Can I still use handset to take calls when connected to Bluetooth?

My Bluetooth device is an U8 watch, the watch is great for notifications but I don't want to talk through the watch all the time, when I take a call I have to use the watch which isn't very private. How do I set the phone up so it notifies me but I still use the handset to take calls?
I have a HTC M8 connected to a U8 smartwatch via bluetooth using BT notifier

I haven't used any wearable tech like that, but check your Bluetooth settings for the watch on the phone. If it's like headsets, you should see some options for when to use Bluetooth. One of those would be phone audio. Uncheck that box and you should be ok. Not sure if it'll still send notifications of calls to the watch.

I have been through those settings, when I untick Audio the whole device disconnects

Very simple. When you get a call, look at the hand set and there is an audio button, center right, probably naming your bluetooth device. Hit it, and choose the phone instead.....

That would work, but it'll be something you have to select for every individual call.
