Can I still use my DINC w/o a data plan?

I need to cut down on expenses and have decided to get rid of the data plan on my Verizon account and go back to my old non-Smart-phone. (Yes, yes, I know, it will be painful!) I know VZ will force me to have a data plan as long as I have a smart-phone.

My question is: Can I still use the DINC w/ Wifi to do just about everything except make phone calls?

Short answer: Yes. I use my original Droid like that.

Link? As long as it doesn't require voice service I don't see why not.

Thanks for the replies! I just wanted to confirm that even over wi-fi, there won't be some surprise msg to the effect of "Sorry, your phone is not activated. Please contact Verizon customer service to do anything remotely useful!"

I suppose you can still make calls over WiFi via Google Voice, Skype, etc. So there is still some use for it

You can still use the market also. Like get updates to apps. and get new apps. also...at least i can with my wifes old eris.
