Can I surf with my gear fit 2 on?

Im looking at getting gear fit 2. But im not so sure if I can stand up paddle surf with it on. I come off on the occasion but usually back on the board within 30 seconds.

I have looked at garmins etc but I like the look of the gear fit 2.

I believe the spec is that the GF2 can withstand being 5' underwater for 30 minutes.
Don't know how that equates to surfing.
