Can I tighten the battery cover??

Battery door... props to motorola

I was surprised yesterday to pick up my phone and observe that the battery cover stayed behind! That's right, it fell off from the mere action of putting the phone down and sliding it about 2 inches. I looked more closely, and realized it was pretty loose fitting on the phone.

After some searching, I learned that this is a known issue, and motorola issues free replacement (upgraded so they don't fall off) doors at no cost upon request. Went to the motorola website, did an online chat, and they swiftly took my address and told me I'd have a new, improved battery door within a week!

As disappointing as this problem is, the build quality seems pretty good overall, and they're correcting it for free. PROPS to motorola for handling the problem well - that's good customer service!

BTW, for the time being, I gently tapped the tabs on the back of my cover with a hammer to tighten them down. This works, but it made a little crease on each tab on the outside of the battery cover. Barely noticeable, but if/when I resell the phone (c'mon Nexus 1!!!) I'd prefer it'd be as clean as possible. It'll be a good "backup" battery cover...

yeah mine falls comes off on occasion to when I have it in my pocket....when I pull it out, the cover stays behind. Thanks for the info about the free replacement. I'm going to the moto site now.

Just order a new one from VZW! Thats what I did, got it next day, works great!

Just a slight bend of the door will fix this issue.

Its not really a design flaw but more of a coating issue. With the door having the semi rubber coating on it, it tends to be "grippy". I can slide my finger across the cover and feel it move into unlocked very easily.

Just a slight bend of the door takes care of this though. Never even notice the bend. Oh... And this is with the NEW and IMPROVED doors as well. Keep in mind, those batteries, as they are used tend to expand and contract from heat. Very little amounts, but just enough to tighten or loosen the battery.

The issue is with the clip (on the Droid) behind the door. I have kept the same door from my release unit. It would slide off the first Droid, however my replacement Droid and that door are almost glued together. I have a hard time opening it sometimes.

I've never had an issue with my battery door cover (I've had two Droids, one was stolen, so now I'm on my replacement). Mine seems to be pretty glued tight just like on my first one. I suspect the biggest culprit is the slightest variation in mass producing an item like this can cause a pretty drastic end result on such a small piece.
