Can I turn a Chromebox into an Android TV box?

I am getting pretty tired of how advertising is creeping into my Roku box. I would like an interface free from ads.

I have several old Chromeboxes. Is it possible to install Android TV?

I like this question. Also wondering about turning plain old laptops into things like this, and things like home media/audio servers or jukeboxes for hosting parties, etc... With things like LinageOS, that can be used to load Android on most old laptops/PCs to turn them into essential Android netbooks (not specifically chromebooks), in theory much of this should be possible.

I am not seeing anything on this subject. What I think I am seeing in the streaming box market now is a rush to create and supply low cost streaming boxes not for the sale of the boxes. More so, as a ad platform. Firestick advertises for Amazon. Roku sells ad space for everyone. I suspect the new, cheap Walmart box pushes Walmart. I currently use Roku. The ads seem to have gotten more invasive over time. Also, even the nVidia Shield now has ads in the menus.

I admit I am probably more sensitive than most when it comes to advertising. I don't mind ad supported streaming content (to a point). It makes sense. I don't, however, want to see ads in my streaming box menus.

The reason I am interested in Android TV for this project is that there will be streaming apps available to install and it may be possible to do some ad blocking on youtube. Youtube ads have gotten ridiculous since the pandemic.

Have you considered getting Chromecast with Google TV? I have two of them, and haven't seen any ads (apart from those in ad-supported apps, like PlutoTV).
