Can I Upgrade to 2.3 Gingerbread While Rooted?

Hi everyone. I'm planning on using Kies to upgrade my Captivate when Gingerbread comes out on it. I was wondering if it's possible to upgrade to 2.3 while my phone is rooted. Also, will it stay rooted? Keep in mind that I also enabled sideloading/

My Kies 2 said it is not compatible with my Samsung infuse. Does anyone knew here the compatibility of infuse?

I'm not a Sammy expert but official updates will usually break root. To keep root I would look to the Devs to release a stock build that is pre rooted and install that.
