Can I use a 4G phone on 3G only?

Can I use a 4G phone f

I have a Verizon Samsung Galaxy s3 that I what to use on Page plus, but it wont let me because 4g is not supported on the 80 plan. their anyway I can use this phone on 3G only? I'm willing to root, unlock or do whatever it takes. Please Help!!!

It should be in settings ..be able to switch networks , my s4 and girlfriends 5s has it .
Look under carrier settings
Or mobile settings

They won't activate a phone that's capable of 4G, whether you use it or not. Even if you physically modify the phone so it can't use 4G, they just won't. Why? Just a guess, but that's probably in their contract with the carrier.

When I called the rep. said that their was a way I could do it, but they couldn't tell.

I put this setting, and now the button for it is gray, and I can't click it. Does does mean I did it correctly, and will it work on Pageplus?

I don't know about all this PagePlus stuff (having never switched carriers on my phone) but it's certainly possible to force the phone to operate in 3G - if the other options don't work you could root and use an app like Advanced Signal Status http://market.android.com/details?id=com.cc.signalinfo to force it into 3G mode.
