I have the HTC metal from sprint and yes im a noob...I don't want to be on a contract plan so I want to change my phone and want to know my options...do I need to flash? or do I even need to..basicly is this a contract only phone? I would love to get on the straight talk card plans as its prepaid and I don't have to worry about anything...my phone either has service or it doesn't and its the cheapest unlimited data plan that I know of...

I'm not sure if it will work straight talk but it will work with Boost. Either way you will need it flashed to work

As far as I know, sprint is still only unlocking the device for international use only, no domestic use. Although you may be able to go through a third party to get an unlock code.

There is no other carrier that runs on the same CDMA freq. that sprint does, Only the pre-paids that sprint owns like Boost. Only outside of the USA will you find any

Let's say you do root and unlock a Sprint HTC One to use with an AT&T Gophone sim. Any reason why you should still expect compatibility problems?

I rooted and unlocked the phone yesterday (or at least thought I did). Everything appears to be GSM-ready. Then when I go to Phone Info and set the preferred network type to GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto, or any non-CDMA setting, I get a steady zero bars. If I switch it to CDMA, I get a signal. I can't do anything with that signal obviously, nor do I want to, but the phone recognizes the network. The same thing happens whether I have the AT&T sim already in or if I change the settings with it out and pop it in after rebooting. Not sure if it matters, but APN have been changed to AT&T ones, too.

It's as if there's some setting that's still "locked" to CDMA/Sprint. Unlocked is unlocked though, even if I didn't unlock it through a code they furnish, right?

I've tried everything I can think of. I was thinking of posting a new thread but my problem sounds kinda similar to the OP's. Any help would be much appreciated.

WCDMA is for World CDMA and GSM. Sprint wont work on any other carrier in the US. Its built to use over seas GSM and CDMA
