Can No Longer Receive Text Messages from Short Code Numbers

My Nexus 5 phone is running Android 6.0.1, but shortly before that, I switched from a T-Mobile Prepaid plan to a postpaid plan and then, immediately back to a prepaid plan again. The thing is that I had a $30/month prepaid plan which is not available as a postpaid plan. But no one told me. They just said that I was eligible for a postpaid plan after 18 months. Of course, I jumped right back when they wanted to charge me $50/month.
So that is what caused the texting trouble. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix it?

I understand your prepaid/postpaid T-Mobile business but you didn't say anything about your problem.

Sorry, that was the title. I can no longer receive text messages from short code numbers. Numbers like 22520 or 77621. These are numbers like your drug store uses to tell you that your prescription is ready. Or maybe your bank sends you a text with a code to verify so you can do mobile banking on your computer. I can receive texts from 10 digit normal phone numbers just fine, but that is all.

Doesn't anyone have any ideas about perhaps a phone setting that I might have accidentally touched that could turn off reception of text messages from short code numbers? T-Mobile is completely baffled, so here I sit without this service. What should I do?

Have you tried factory reset on the phone? Or maybe before that go into the texting app and go through all of the settings really thoroughly. Also try removing/reinserting your sim card and double checking your APN settings etc. Maybe also try a cache partition wipe too.

I don't know if this will help or not, but I had the same problem on ATT a while back. Although I did not realize it at the time, it happened after I set up the ATT texting web interface (where you can veiw and send texts when logged into your ATT account on a web browser). I actually got a support person who understood the issue and said it was a problem on their end but the only solution at the time was to deactivate the ATT texting web interface. As soon as I did that, the short number texts worked again.

In my case, the issue had nothing to do with the phone or phone settings... it was all on the carrier end.

Not sure if that helps you on Tmobile or not......
