Can not root GS4. Get message: Superuser.apk already exist

Hi All,

Sorry if the answer to this is somewhere. I've been looking for hours and can not fix this.

I'm trying to root my T-Mobile Galaxy S4. I tried it on a PC last week with no luck. And now I'm trying on a Mac.

I get this message during the root process:

[*] Pushing root tools...
4927 KB/s (366952 bytes in 0.072s)
4786 KB/s (1867568 bytes in 0.381s)
5134 KB/s (1578585 bytes in 0.300s)
pkg: /data/local/tmp/Superuser.apk
Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_ALREADY_EXISTS]
[*] Rooting phone...
[+] This may take a few minutes.
[-] Failure.
[*] Cleaning up...

I'm thinking I can remove the temp file. But I can not seem to figure out how to do that.

Any help would be appreciated!

It would appear the answer would not be in this forum. Could anyone let me know where I could possibly find the answer? I've spent a lot of time trying to find the answer everywhere, with no luck.

I am having the same issue as you are. I had rooted my s3 on my mac with no issues at all and for whatever reason I can't find a work around with this. I have also looked into my files to find the apk file but nowhere to be found. Hopefully someone can help us out!

The place to check would be at Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4 Android Development - xda-developers because that's where the original root came from your trying to use.

I am trying to root on a mac so Odin rooting isn't my method of choice!

Can you open a shell on your phone?

adb shell

Then, try to change your directory to the location where it is attemping to put the file:

cd /data/local/tmp/

Then, list the directory contents with this command: "ls -l".

What is there? If you can't cd to that directory, that may be the problem: It doesn't exist. If the file Superuser.apk is already there, remove it with this:

"rm Superuser.apk"

Case matters in UNIX commands.

Sorry to sound ignorant but I have not a clue what you are referring to. I never heard of a shell. I rooted my s3 with no issues, so not sure how to do the steps you gave me. Can you explains bit further, I'd greatly appreciate that

Ok. Just open a command prompt and navigate to the directory with your root files. Then, do "adb devices" and follow those commands above.

I also noticed that when I reboot my phone I now have a lock logo underneath the samsung logo when by phone boots up....it says custom above it. What is that?

Download "Root Checker" from Google Play and run it. What does it say?
