Can One UI updates be blocked? And if so can this stop Samsung messages from being disabled?

Just thinking of an idea. Seems like I got the message that Samsung messages will be disabled only after installing a Beta version of One UI 8.5. My Note 10+ doesn't have a message stuck at the top of messages. How annoying.

The Messages update will come as an app update as well. While technically possible to keep the app and OS from updating, a lot of features that are dependent on Samsung's servers will just cease to work regardless (kind of like an app that won't connect to a service's servers unless it's updated to a certain version). You're way better off finding (and learning to live with) a 3rd party alternative to messaging than it is to try and keep an out-of-date-and-unsupported version running.

As to why you want to keep Samsung Messages instead of Google's offering, any particular features you're looking for? Maybe we can help figure out a suitable alternative?

It won't work at all with or without updates unless you have a device running Android 11 or older. 'Dumb,' 'sad' and 'annoying' — Samsung Messages is shutting down and this is the replacement | Tom's Guide https://share.google/x76sXk2qxX8O0rH9t
With the One UI 8.5 beta available for the S23 Ultra, my prediction is Samsung messages will die with One UI 8.5 and I have hope that if you're still on 8.0 or and older Samsung that it will still work. 8.5 has the Samsung messages version that will die. My Note 10+ doesn't have the death message that my S24 Ultra has on One UI 8.5.
And if that's the case, you just have to figure out how to block forced updates.

At least you guys didn't have an Essential Phone, they made the PH-1 ( which was an awesome device) then sailed off into the sunset.

It won't. It will be checked at the server level.

So if I don't have Google messages installed on My Note 10 Plus (which had support discontinued years ago) with One UI 4.1/Android 12 Samsung will disable Samsung messages? I can maybe understand how Samsung can disable Samsung messages if Google messages comes installed with the OS because there is an alternative built into the OS. But I find it hard to believe that it will be disabled on my Note 10 Plus because if someone sends a text where will it go? I have doubts about One UI 8 on the S24/S23/S22/etc and non updated Samsung messages too.
I believe One UI is the nail in the coffin for Samsung messages. By July many phones will be out of the beta version of 8.5. Time will tell.

From here:

I'm taking the 2nd bullet point to be the kill shot. I'd say you might as well use the 3 months to get used to a different application.

It won't disable the app, but the app alone isn't what makes texting work on your phone. The SERVER side stuff that makes it 'tick' is no longer going to support Samsung Messages (and per GolfDriver's reference to Samsung's own support page, only sending Emergency services will be available after the deadline). For older phones that are no longer supported, since that's the case, not sure how they'll handle the 3rd-party option, however.
