Can receive text but not send

My son has a Droid 2 (new) and he can receive texts but he can't send to certain contacts..no error codes but the recipient just doesn't get them. Just started today...no issues prior. Tried to power off and then back on but didn't work.

Any suggestions? Thanks

This may or may not be related. For about the past two weeks, I've been having problems where messages fail to send the first time in Handcent SMS (I get the red X to the left) and I have to retype them and resend.

Perhaps VZW is having "issues".

Is the phone still on 2.2 or has it been updated to 2.3.3?
