Can root change?

Is it possible to have a qi-enabled device charged by a powermat charger by activating it through root access? Since they are so similar, it should be possible, right? Unless the coils are so different....

The hardware is different, so nothing you do in software will change one to the other. It would be like using a different brand of gasoline to change the color of your car.
