Maybe someone can help with this!

I take pictures with my S5 and they look great. I then Email them to an address, download them and try to open the resultant .jpg files with my computer. They will not open. I am told the file format is invalid in Picasa, that Windows Photo Viewer cannot open that file format (.jpg?), etc. No way to get them to function on my computer...but they look great on my phone's camera roll...

Any ideas?

Welcome to Android Central! That's odd. Have you tried uploading the photos to a cloud service like Google+ or Dropbox, and then downloading them to your computer? One downside is that the photo might not upload at full resolution to Google+, even with the proper setting for full resolution upload turned on--I've encountered that problem before.

Install Google Drive on your s5 and PC. Then share them on your s5 with Google Drive and you will have them on your PC in the same format.

I just use the USB connection and have no issues at all on my Win7 desktop PC.

full resolution 16 mB photos come through great.

Having the same issue. This all started after the 4.4.2 update to my S3. I hooked the phone up by USB and was able to pull the photos off with no issues.

Is there any settings that need to be changed after the 4.4.2 update that have to do with the emailing of pictures taken with the phone that you send to your PC?

thanks
